UED STUDY SKILLS WEEK 2

INTRODUCTION

Alhamdulillah all of the interim student in UITM PAHANG KAMPUS JENGKA had finally survive the second week if interim session and it was a very good achievement for me cause i really had my doubt that this was gonna be a very hard week since my first week was really hard enough to catch up because we need to go to places that was located far away between each venue. So here am i again to tell you what have i gain in the second class of ued 110(study skills).

TOPIC FOUR:GETTING TO KNOW THE CAMPUS

MAKING THE MOST OF COLLEGE RESOURCES

There are three types of resources that we have here in UITM PAHANG KAMPUS JENGKA and they are:

1.ACADEMIC RESOURCES
-PERPUSTAKAAN AL BUKHARI
                                                 Image result for uitm jengka

This is our newest library that most of the interim student go here to finish their assignment and that includes me as well because i dont have a laptop so this is the main place that students like me would go to do their assignment that have to be done using a laptop

-HEA BUILDINGS
Image result for uitm jengka HEA

Here we have the one and only UITM JENGKA HEA BUILDING where students can go here if they problems with their study such as have to repeat paper or maybe flunk in their previous semester

2.HOUSING,DINING AND TRANSPORTATION RESOURCES
  -BUSES

Image result for uitm jengka BUS

The bus are provided by the university for student that have event that include large number of student to be transported to the location. So far i had only given the chance to ride this bus once and that was to went to a football match at Stadium Jengka which was Felda United againts PDRM.

 -DEWAN MAKAN
Image result for uitm jengka dewan makan mat kilau

This is the where the siswa would have their breakfast, lunch, dinner or maybe supper. The dewan makan would open at 6.a.m. at would close at 11.p.m. and the food here is very cheap with a variety of dishes that could be enjoyed by the students

 -KOLEJ MAT KILAU
Image result for uitm jengka dewan makan mat kilau

All the Siswa will be placed here in kolej mat kilau although there are many blocks in kolej mat kilau but most of the interim student would only be staying in three blocks which is block A,B and D but after the interim the Siswa would be reshuffle into different blocks according to their Faculty.

3.STUDENT ORGANIZATION RESOURCES
  -TENNIS COURT
Image result for uitm jengka court

The tennis court is provided for student to use freely as their heart content

  -BASKETBALL COURT

You could see many student often use this court because both male and female student have interest in this sport.

TOPIC FIVE:MEMORY LEARNING AND IMPROVING CONCENTRATION

UNDERSTANDING MEMORY PROCESS

The second topic that was been lecture to us is given by Encik Zulhafizal Othman and he said in the journey of learning we need to have 5 basic rules which is:
1.intention(niat)
2.attempted(berusaha)
3.prayer and tawakkal
4.dont use knowledge in the path of evil
5.parents blessing

these are the most basic thing you need to have in order to become a good student.

"knowledge comes with learning learning
skills come with experience but
attitude never come it need to be develop"-vishaak

MEMORY VS BRAIN

-memory is the ability of an individual to keep, defend and remember a information and experience(computer software)
-brain is an organ(computer hardware)
Image result for brain

THE FIRST ACTIVITY

This is shown that i mostly used my left brain during the past few years of my life and since my score is 44.44 this means that i am truly a dominant left brain.

RELEVANCE BETWEEN BRAIN AND MEMORY

-Analogy like a computer
COMPUTER
HUMAN
Cpu
brain
mouse
hand
pendrive
memory
keyboard
mouth
speaker
mouth
microphone
ear
-encoding/input(computer:keyboard,camera
                           human:our 5 senses)

-storage(computer:hard disk,thumb drive
human:3types of memory which is SM,STM and LTM)

-retrieval/output(computer:computer screen,printer
                           human:wrting,talking)

MEMORY
The memory has been classified into three types which is Short Memory(SM),Short Term Memory(STM) and Long Term Memory(LTM)

SHORT MEMORY
-it is only temporary
-if it was given enough attention it will enter SHORT TERM MEMORY but if it is not given attention it will vanished

SHORT TERM MEMORY
-only lasted for 30second to 24 hours
-some SHORT TERM MEMORY will enter LONG TERM MEMORY if it was repeated over and over again

LONG TERM MEMORY
-a memory of something in a long period of time
-every information that is restored in the LONG TERM MEMORY will lasted forever but it depends on the person whether he is capable or not to recall  this memory

RECALL
-weakness of a person to call back his LONG TERM MEMORY and sometimes described as forget

SECOND ACTIVITY
This activity determines your memory level and it looks like i dont have a good memory to remember all the numbers and i even got 2 wrong number

MEMORY STRATEGIES

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY

1.avoid doing massed practice because your brain cannot comprehend a large amout of information in a short time so you need to regularly do spaced practice because it will give your brain to take all the information in its best shape

2.divide your time such as if it was a subject that needs you to read or memorize so try to read only 2 chapter for a day and not the whole chapter a day before the exams

3.try to use elaboration strategies like the aeronyms technique which is you simply take the front alphabet of every word that you need to memorize and make it into an easy sentence to memorized

CAUSES OF POOR CONCRNTRATION
1.lack of attention
2.lack of interest
3.lack of motivation
4.distraction from others
5.uncomfortable environment
6.physiological matters like illness
7.phychological matters like having personal problems

STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING CONCENTRATION

1.Use motivational and organizational strategies

-create interest in work
-develop a positive attitude towards your work
-use goal strategies
-use time according to time management studies

2.Create a positive learning environment

-find a better location
-reduce multitasking
-minimize distraction

3.Deal with internal distraction
-faced your personal problems
-deal with competing activities

4.Use active learning strategies

SQ3R

Survey: look out for something to get the big image of it

Question: build up question while you are reading so that you are always looking for answers

Read: use all your resources to get the answers

Recite: make short notes
:do all the past year question

Review: revised back what you have learn
:Sum up all that you learn and maybe make a flashcard out of it

study skills
week 1 interim
UED102

INTRODUCTION

Assalamualaikum,

My name is Muhammad Azraei Daniel Bin Sazlan and i'm here to share to you about my first interim week in UITM PAHANG kampus JENGKA. It was a really hectic week before interim week because we are suppose to go through the MDS(minggu destini siswa). We need to follow all the rules that was decided by our OC and some of the rule are even seemed impossible for me cause it was way out of my routine life before entering this university. One of the rule was we need to wake up at 4 a.m. in the morning to prepare for a roll call at 5 a.m. but after somehow manage to survive all the siswa and siswi need to prepare for the interim week that will lasted for three weeks. One of class that we need to attend was UED102(STUDY SKILLS). So in this blog i will share to you what I an EC110 student had learn in this class.

TOPIC ONE:GETTING READY TO LEARN

MAKING TRANSITION

The first topic is getting ready to learn and it was teach by Madam Aimi. In this topic we learn how to adapt our self in the difference between the life of a high school student and the life of an university student. Somehow this has opened my mind a little bit because i realise that i am no more in my comfort zone so i have to stand on my own now without the help of my family but it was not a problem for me to adjust my surrounding because i had always been studying in away from my family and living in the life as a boarding school student because in the MRSM system student are require to stay in the hostel that had been provided by the school. This is the difference between highschool and university

HIGHSCHOOLl
UNIVESTITY
The class session is more longer and packed
Less class session as we can decide our own credit hours
Need to follow the dress code that had been set by the school
More open as we can decide our own uniform
More test that is given through out the year
There would be less test only the final exam and sometimes the lecturer will give some quiz
The important date will always be reminded by the teachers
The lecturer will only inform the important date less frequent
Some assignment will have an extra time if student does not complete in the time given
There will be no extra time and the assignment will be rejected
Truancy will not affect the exam grades
Truancy will have a big effect on the exam grades if you miss a quiz or etc
Student will be given homework everyday and the teachers will check it in the next class
Less homework and it will not be check by the lecturer

CHARACTERISTIC OF SUCCESSFUL STUDENT

  1. MOTIVATED - student need to have this quality because it will push the student to its limits bacause the student will stop at nothing to achieve what he wants. This will lead to the student having no regret to sacrifice the time and hardwork
  2. RESPONSIBLE - this is the most obvious quality that you might find in a successful student because this quality would lead to the student awareness of having to prioritize between pleasure and work
  3. HAVE HIGH EQ'S - emotional intelligence is the ability to control your feelings under certain circumstances and this quality is very important because nowadays student will have urges to be in a relationship but with this quality he could still control his feelings if the relationship somehow affect his studies
  4. CONFIDENCE - having confidence in yourself would help you to believe that you are capable of completing the task so you wont be giving up easily
  5. INTELLECTUAL CURIOUS - in order to become a successful student you need to have the passion in your studying

USING LEARNING STYLE TO ENHANCE PERFORMANCE

Image result for learning styles

Based on the test that Madam Aimi had conducted which is the learning style inventory I had scored:

VISUAL - 5
AUDITORY - 6
KINESTHETIC - 8

So it seems that i am more into a kinesthetic type of learner so in order to improve myself i need to study by using my hand more often, cut up charts and diagrams or create flascard but to be truth i had already tried this method during spm and i work perfectly fine with me because it helps me memorize better especially subjects that involve reading but for subject that includes calculation i am more comfortable with hearing music while studying.I would also want try to create mind maps, flow charts to see if im also a visual learner or maybe try to summarize what i had read into my own sentence to see if some part of me is a auditory learner.

TOPIC TWO:GOAL SETTING

SETTING GOAL FOR THE NEW SEMESTER

FAILING TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL - this quote is given by Miss Aina and it shows that planning is a major part in if you want to achieve something and in my case to graduate in diploma in civil engineering. For this semester i target to achieve 3.5 and above for my pointer and become a dean student.

Image result for meme in having 3.5 gpa

I feel very enthusiastic to achieve my goal since this is my first semester and it is really important that i scored because my long term goal is graduate with ANC(ANUGERAH NAIB CANSELOR) so i really need to score 3.5 above for every semester

WRITING EFFECTIVE GOAL STATEMENT

S - specific(the goal need to be in detail not just an overall statement)
M - measurable(the goal must be something that can be count)
A - achievable(the goal must be something that can be achieve with the person area)
R - realistic(the goal must be something logic that can be achieve with the human capability)
T - timely(the goal must be achieve in a period time that had been decided)

Image result for study goal meme

USING THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT

  1. Set the goals(you need to be clear with your goal)
  2. Make a commitment and hard work(dedicate yourself to accomplish your goal)
  3. Be accountable(you need to take responsibilities after you set up your goal)

TOPIC THREE:TIME MANAGEMENT

In this topic I learn that we ourselves need control out time not the time controling us because we need optimize our time to the fullest so that we could use our time doing the things that we need to do like finish our assignment, spending time with friends, doing revision and many more.

'Begin with the end in mind' that was what miss Aina said to class this means that we need to know how to stop for example if you are playing games you need to know when to stop so that it would not interrupt our daily schedule because if you dont know how to stop the maybe it will take your slepping time making you having less sleep and cant concentrate in the lecture

There are 5 strategies that miss Aini had taught us which is we need to have:
-weekly schedule
-daily planner
-semester calender
-academic vs personal life

This are some remedy if you loose yourself
1.go back to your goal(you need to be reminded why are you doing this)
2.alert to deadline(by having an awareness of the deadline you will have some concern about your work)
3.prioritized(each things need to be considered of its level of importancy so that you will more focused on doing the things more important)
4.self reward(try to reward yourself after you have accomplished something so that you will feel more pleasure after completing it)

Time management tools are the most important for a student in life because it can help you to organize your day. This is one of the example of a calender by huawei(promote)

These are some daily plans that had been planned by my calender

The answer is:
1.routine
2.routine
3.asap
4.routine
5.routine
6.asap
7.asap
8.asap
9.routine
10.asap
This was one of the activity that we need to list down and analyse the type of importancy and frequency
